Social Studies: Monday will finish up our interactive notebook geography unit. We'll continue Chapter 3 about the Southeast on Tuesday.
Math: Please continue to work on basic multiplication facts with your student. Place value is a subject that can be difficult for some students, so we are going to spend Monday making it fun. We'll be comparing and writing in expanded from numbers to one million on paper pumpkins. These will be put on display in the hallway as autumnal decoration. Subtractions word problems, drawing pictures of fractions are the other topics we'll be go over this week. The test will be on Wednesday.
Reading: Fairy tales is the next genre we will be reading. This week we'll be in the text book, and next week we'll do reading activities outside of it.
English: We have started a grammar program: Shurley Grammar. Students learn songs to help the remember how to identify parts of speech. On Monday night, they will bring home the first pages of chapter 1. They should look over the pages and study for Tuesday's test.
Spelling: The pre-test on Monday will determine which list of words students will get this week. However, there is only one list available on Spelling City. This should be the last week of only one list being available.
Science: Our early dismissal days caused us to take a big pause in our science lessons. As a class we are participating in the Global Read Aloud. The Wild Robot is a fantastic book. We will be doing some camouflage lessons in science this week to go along with the book. Students have been begging me for more STEM lessons, and I'm happy to give them some.
